OUR STORY

Our story starts in the Midwest – with one phone line, one engineer, and one big idea: that technology should make work easier, not harder. Thirty years later, we’re still rooted in that belief. We’ve grown with our clients, built a team of in-house experts, and stayed true to our promise to always put people first.

High Five

In the Trenches. Not in a Garage.

Our company wasn’t born from venture capital, hoodies, or hype. It was founded in 1992 by Beth Tinsman, an engineer with a sharp eye and sharper standards – who saw what the industry was getting wrong.

As businesses rushed to embrace new technology, one truth became painfully clear: the people selling it didn’t understand the people using it. Systems were sold, installed, and forgotten. Support was an afterthought – outsourced, under-trained, and often missing when it mattered.

Beth had seen enough. So she built something better.

She founded Twin State Technical Services not in Silicon Valley, but in the Quad Cities – because that’s where the need was. Local governments. Manufacturers. Schools. Nonprofits. The backbone of the Midwest. These were organizations too vital to be ignored, and too often failed by firms chasing bigger names and bigger budgets.

There was no clever branding exercise. No pitch deck. No launch party.

There was just a phone line. And someone on the other end who picked it up. We showed up. Solved problems. And, crucially, stayed long enough to prevent them from coming back.

While others were selling boxes, we were building relationships. While others pitched “support packages,” we were becoming what didn’t exist yet: a true digital partner – one who understood not just the tech stack, but the business behind it.

We didn’t talk about scale. We built it. Beth hired deep, scaled smart and brought every capability in-house, from infrastructure and security to software development and design. What other firms outsource, we master.

Today, we operate with the rigor of a national provider and the soul of a local one. The tools have changed. The stakes have not. We’re still here. Still in Davenport, Iowa. Still showing up. And still solving the kinds of problems that don’t come with instructions. Because when your business depends on technology, you don’t want a vendor. You want a partner who’s already done this for 30 years – and isn’t going anywhere.

As President it’s great to know TSTS has our back when it comes to the IT world. That has been a weight lifted off my shoulders.

Conversations at Twin State start with, “What are you trying to do? What is the larger purpose?” It’s a model I’ve taken with me everywhere.
