Cyber-security Town Hall

for Cyber-Security Month!
*edited post

“Following the hacking of companies like Yahoo and Equifax, local leaders here in the Quad Cities have shown concern over the possibility of a security breach. The Quad Cities Chamber held a cybersecurity meeting on Thursday to discuss changes coming to the Department of Defense to combat cyber attacks. They also gave tips on ways to protect yourself from potential hackers. They say keeping up to date on your computer’s operating system and anti-virus software is crucial to staying safe online.” –WQAD Digital Team

With cyber-crime damage costs predicted to hit $6 trillion annually by 2021, the Quad Cities Chamber brought together industry, business, and community leaders in a panel format to discuss the growing importance of cybersecurity to our region’s businesses and their operations.

The Cyber-security Town Hall was an hour-long panel conversation led by regional experts to help area businesses understand the growing cyber-security threats. The panel covered what’s important on the cyber-security landscape now, why businesses should care, what steps they should take to assess their cyber-security readiness and how to move toward implementation. They also discussed what new certifications will soon be required for those doing business with the Department of Defense and other government entities. Those that don’t meet the standards could incur major fines or lose government contracts.

After the panel discussion, attendees continued the conversation at the different small-group discussions led by individual moderators.

Panelists included:

  • FBI Specialist, Agent Steve Telisak
  • Our very own, Beth Tinsman, CEO and Founder of Twin State Technical Services
  • Greg Price, vice president of defense programs for Trowbridge & Trowbridge
  • Josh McIntyre, associate with Quad-City law firm of Land & Waterman, moderator

This program was presented by the Quad Cities Chamber’s Quad Cities Manufacturing Innovation Hub and the Defense Industry Adjustment Program. Special thanks to location sponsor The Current Iowa.

This event was held on
Thursday, October 5, 2017 from 3:00 PM – 5:00 PM CDT at The Current Iowa
